On December 14th the US Energy Information Administration released its annual reference case - the Annual Energy Outlook 2010 (AEO2010) - which focuses on updating the projections of different sources of US energy consumption and production for the next twenty five years.

Interestingly the estimates show that consumption of liquid based fuels in the US is likely to grow to the year 2035 from a current 19 million barrels per day to 22 million barrels per day. Interestingly though the predictions expect that the difference between these two figures is likely to be biofuels - the expectation being that different biofuels sources will actually account for the growth in liquid fuels in the next 25 years whilst the use of petroleum-based fuels will remain flat.

The EIA believes that the end result of this will be the energy security of the US and the lessening in reliance on imported fuels.
