CImage_2Different states have different mechanisms by which they are introducing the use of biofuels:

  • New South Wales – NSW started an ethanol mandate of 2% from October 2008. On the 1st of January 2010, this increased to 4%. NSW also mandated 2% biodiesel from 1st January 2010. NSW has now increased their ethanol mandated to 6% by volume, effective 1st October 2011. NSW has also announced that the biodiesel mandate will rise to 5% effective 1st January 2012.
  • Queensland – ethanol mandate of 5% in all unleaded regular petrol was due to be implemented from 1st January 2011. However uncertainty around the federal excise regime postponed this move. Queensland is understood to be reviewing its position in light of the new federal excise provisions.
  • Victoria – 5% biofuels target by 2010
  • Western Australia – 5% biofuels target by 2010
